Our Founder
KellySOMM is a Las Vegas-based digital e-commerce wine retail company founded by Kelly Ford Lau, an alum of UNLV Hotel College and Wine & Spirits Magazine's "Best New Sommeliers of 2010". The pandemic-born business is rooted in Kelly's three passions: beverage, hospitality, and technology. The curated subscription and bottle shop primarily focuses on delivering low-intervention and natural wines directly to your doorstep. Each box is personally curated and hand-packed to astound all your senses and pique your curiosity about low-intervention and natural wines.
By supporting a Las Vegas-based e-commerce site like KellySOMM, you are also supporting the Vegas wholesale eco-system, and helping to keep the Nevada wine scene as diverse and fun as possible, thanks to the selection of unique wines sourced from Vegas-based wine wholesalers. To further her quest for knowledge, Kelly pursued a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she met her mentors, who were wine professors at UNLV, both of whom happened to be Master Sommeliers. She was later accepted to be a TA for one of her mentors, which led to an opportunity in 2004 at Bellagio Casino & Resort as their Wine Manager, reporting directly under the property wine director Rob Bigelow, M.S.
Upon graduation in 2006, Kelly quickly transitioned into working as a full-time restaurant sommelier. During her lead sommelier tenures, she worked with notable chef-driven venues such as Delmonico by Emeril Lagasse, Postrio by Wolfgang Puck, Otto by Mario Batali, Bardot Brasserie by Michael Mina, and é by José Andrés. Kelly has continued to refine her artistry and knowledge by working in the hospitality industry abroad in Thailand, Spain, and China. As an experienced wine supplier, she worked in wine wholesale before starting her own e-commerce company in the fall of 2020, KellySOMM.
Eager to lean into the technology industry, she now works during the week for a mid-stage startup! She enjoys spending her free time learning anything that piques her curiosity, eating, drinking, traveling, and socializing with like-minded industry friends. Together with her husband, Kinson Lau, who is also an F&B veteran and an excellent home cook, and their young son Lucas, they hope to pass down their passion for experiencing and appreciating all cultures.
